Echoes of a Vanished Oasis

Location: Central Iran, Agricultural Field in Saman, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari

This photograph was taken in the central part of Iran, in the agricultural fields that have been tended by my family for generations. It depicts a once vital water collection pool, now completely dried due to the persistent droughts that have increasingly plagued this region. As a child, I spent countless hours playing in these fields, surrounded by the lush, green landscape that this pool helped sustain. Today, the land is barren, the pool empty—a stark contrast to the vibrant memories I hold.
The drying of this pool symbolizes the severe impact of climate change on local agriculture and the livelihoods that depend on it. This image captures more than just a landscape; it tells the story of loss, resilience, and the urgent need for sustainable solutions to protect our natural resources.
