Forest Landscape Restoration at the Elgo and Sile Basin Areas in Ethiopia
On the far horizon, the picture shows the Lake Chamo and with a close glance the Elgo and Sile Catchments. Soil erosion is an advancing problem in the area, particularly due to agricultural activities on high slopes which are causing land degradation and land slides especially in the hilly upstream area. Agroforestry, stone bands as well as check dams are dominant local soil conservation practices to lower the risk of soil erosion and land degradation.
